North Band Shows Off Its Talent in Spring Concert
Seniors honored for their commitment to music program.
Clarkstown High School North hosted its annual Spring Band Concert Tuesday night, showing off the musical talents of North students.
Patrick A. Magliano II, who has been part of the North music department for 22 years, led the band as conductor, band director and musical technologist.
The band is composed of more than 80 9th thru 12th graders and played a collection of three musical selections: Young Person's Guide To John Williams, by John Williams; Rumble On The High Plains, by Michael Sweeney; and, Majestia, by James Swearingen.
"I chose songs in relation to the character of the band," said Magliano. "There are a lot of percussionist, and its important to keep them busy."
Magliano, commonly called "Mr. Mag" by his adoring students and their parents, celebrated the senior class members for their dedication and hard work for their four years with the band at North. Midway through the concert he honored them with certificates in what he called their "band graduation."
Senior trumpet player Joshua Becker debuted his conducting skills with the closing ensemble, Majestia. "It felt amazing, something very different from playing the one instrument," Josh proclaimed.
There is no doubt that the North band is talented, parents and students alike praised Magliano for his teaching abilities and dedication to the students. Jay Nair, mother of percussionist Sanjay Nair, was simply mesmerized by the band and Magliano's talent. " I always ask him how does he do it?" said Nair. "He's a wonderful teacher."
If you missed the concert Tuesday night, you can hear the Clarkstown North Band play at the Congers Memorial Day Parade on Saturday.
