NY Police Chase Across I-84: Car Reported Stolen in Rhode Island
According to New York State cops the trio fleeing pursuit went airborne before crashing into a police car.
State police say Rhode Islanders in a stolen car led them on a high-speed chase in Orange County Tuesday, stopping only after going airborne, driving on the shoulder, and smashing into a police car.
State Police stopped a vehicle on I-84 West in the Town of Montgomery, for speeding -- they say the car was traveling 80 in a 65 mph zone.Â
During the traffic stop, troopers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Rhode Island. Then, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jason Swan, 31, of Woonsocket, RI, drove off.

Police pursued him for about 12 miles.
At one point, police say, Swan entered the center median, immediately swerved, re-entered the roadway hitting the culvert, and went airborne.Â

Police said he then regained control and continued to travel westbound on I-84.Â
Lastly, he tried to pass traffic on the right shoulder, struck a State Police vehicle,  and eventually came to a stop in the driving lane.Â
The trooper in the vehicle was uninjured.
Swan was arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle.Â
The passengers, Jeremey Arias, 22, of Woonsocket, RI, and Brittany Campbell, 19, of Rumford, RI, were charged with Resisting Arrest, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle.
All three were sent to Orange County Jail with a return date of June 20.
