One Dies When Jeep Smashes Into Dump Truck

Mark Lane has reopened after being closed for eight hours.

NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown police are investigating a fatal crash Saturday night. It took place on Mark Lane in New City, apparently involving a Jeep that smashed into a parked dump truck.

Officers who arrived at the scene at about 10:30 p.m. found a 2012 Jeep Wrangler half on the road and half on the front lawn of 14 Mark Lane. The whole car had extensive damage.

Police said it appeared that the Wrangler had struck a dump truck parked in the street. The Jeep's passenger, a 21-year-old woman, had been ejected from the vehicle.

She was pronounced deceased by the Rockland Paramedic Unit on scene.

Her identity will not be released until proper notification is made to her family, police said.

The driver, a 22-year-old from Monroe, NY, had minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. He was issued a summons for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd (misdemeanor) and unlicensed operator of a motor vehicle (violation). His license had been suspended out of Goshen, NY for failure to pay a fine.

The dump truck was not occupied.

The Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene for processing and investigation. Mark Lane has been reopened after being closed for eight hours during the investigation.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
