Keep Rockland Beautiful's Earth B.E.A.T. At JCC [PHOTOS]

Seventh and eighth graders participated in Basic Environmental Awareness Training

About 90 seventh and eighth graders participated in Keep Rockland Beautiful’s Earth Basic Environmental Awareness Training (B.E.A.T.) Tuesday night at the Rockland JCC in West Nyack campus. The JCC hosted in program in honor of Tu B’shvat, the Jewish holiday also called "New Year of the Trees.”

The students were spread into groups and rotated through stations that went over a variety of information, from learning about local plants and wildlife through a bingo game to learning about how to properly discard different kinds of waste through a relay using garbage pickers. They also played a form of musical chairs with no chairs, instead walking around a shrinking tarp to illustrate the dangers of wasting natural resources. There was also a tabletop model of a watershed to observe how humans can negatively affect waterways.
