Police Accuse Suffern Man Of Driving Drunk After Thruway Crash

Police said he was driving with a blood alcohol level more than two times the legal limit.

NEW CITY, NY — A Suffern man accused of drunk driving on the New York State Thruway faces charges in Clarkstown. State police responded to a one-car crash on I-87 at 1:34 a.m. in Clarkstown.

They said a Toyota Corolla ran off the roadway. After investigating, they said they concluded the uninjured driver, Juan C. Arteaga-Funes, 30, was intoxicated.

He was transported and processed at state police barracks in Tarrytown, where his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.19 percent, police said.

He was subsequently charged with:

  • Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; an Unclassified Misdemeanor
  • Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Violations

Arteaga-Funes was turned over to a sober third party and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Clarkstown Court on Feb. 6.
