Pomona Middle School Sign Vandalized

Overnight someone posted something that could be considered racist or rap.

Someone rearranged the letters on the sign outside Pomona Middle School overnight, causing an uproar across Rockland County and on social media.

The sign had originally had a message for the Suffern NY communty about Thanksgiving. It morphed into something more reminiscent of gangsta rap in Pomona, California.

After people discovered the vandalism, all the letters on the sign were removed.

The incident sparked a lot of discussion on social media, including in the group Save Our Schools: East Ramapo, as people expressed shock and anger. “The boards are completely blank now, they even don’t have the Thanksgiving message anymore. I assume afraid vandalism might happen again.”

Rockland County Executive Ed Day sent out a statement:

“In Rockland County, we have no tolerance for the recent racist vandalism at Pomona Middle School. We will not accept this reprehensible behavior. This action is being rightfully condemned and thoroughly investigated.

Now more than ever, this deplorable act is a striking reminder that, as good neighbors, we must be ever vigilant and report suspicious activity in neighborhoods, schools and at work. It is up to all of us to make Rockland County a welcoming place to live and raise a family.”
