Ramah Day Camp Hosts the PJ Library Summer Pool Party

Jewish families across Rockland came to Camp Ramah for an action-packed afternoon provided by PJ Library of Rockland County.

Jewish families in the Rockland community were able to enjoy a fun-filled Monday afternoon at the PJ Library Pool Party, which took place at Ramah Day Camp in Nyack.

Close to 90 children between the ages of six months and five years old along with their siblings and parents attended the free event, which lasted from 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.

"I think it's wonderful," said Bethel Marcus, a parent. "I think they're learning in a great, fun way."

The program began with a Jewish-themed story that was read aloud as well as acted out by some of Ramah’s staff. Throughout the story, children were given the opportunity to sing and dance in a stimulating environment. After story-time, everyone headed over to the pool area where there was swimming, basketball, and a barbeque set up.

"We're going to be doing programs throughout the year," said Lori Pitkofsky, director of PJ LIbrary of Rockland County. "Just bringing people together and seeing all the various sites throughout the county."

The PJ Library, funded by local Jewish communities, philanthropists, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, is a national organization that sends free Jewish-themed books and music to Jewish children on a monthly basis. The organization’s goal is to foster a strong sense of Judaism amongst Jewish families in the community and encourage Jewish literacy. Rockland County is one of 140 communities participating in the program.

PJ Library of Rockland hosted the pool party in an effort to further cultivate a sense of Judaism amongst the county's Jewish population. The event was exciting for the children who were able to learn about and explore their Jewish heritage.
