Residents Complain Of Phone Fraud: Clarkstown Police

NEW CITY, NY — Clarkstown police report numerous residents are filing complaints about a current phone fraud.
Residents are telling police that they received a call from a man claiming to be from Orange and Rockland Utilities. The caller told them that they owed $3,000 on their O&R account and that he would send a bill collector if they did not pay. The man instructed the victims to go to a store where they could obtain Green Dot cards.
Each time, the caller instructs the victim to purchase the cards and has the victim call the suspect back with the card information, police said.

The number that the suspect provides to the victims is answered, when called, as “Orange and Rockland”.
The phone number is 888-223-2195.

The Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau is investigating these incidents.
"Please be very aware of anyone asking you to purchase cash cards to pay a debt. They are almost always a SCAM!" police said.
