Results of St. Patrick's DWI Crackdown: NYSP
State police report more tickets issued -- and that they responded to almost 1,000 accidents (including four fatalities).

The New York State Police issued more than 17,000 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative.
The campaign ran for a total of 143 hours, starting March 12, 2016, and running through March 17.
During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, which ran for a total of 120 hours, the state police issued 14,113 tickets and arrested 264 people for DWI, police officials said.
During the campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, state police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking and sales to minors details. State troopers also ticketed distracted drivers who were using handheld electronic devices.
State troopers arrested 257 people for DWI and investigated 947 accidents -- which resulted in four fatalities and 243 people injured.
As part of the enforcement, officials said troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across New York. Here is a sampling of the total tickets that were issued statewide:
