Reward Offered in Fatal Hit-and-Run on Route 202

Ramapo police ask the public to look out for an early 2000s Chevrolet with fresh front-end damage, probably dark blue.

New York Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 as Ramapo police continue efforts to find the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run on Route 202 Dec. 21.

Pomona resident William George was found by police on the side of Route 202 between Spook Rock Road and Old Haverstraw Road in serious medical distress. His bicycle showed damage consistent with having been struck by a moving vehicle, police said.

There was no other vehicles in the area and no one came forward.

George was treated at the scene by arriving Rockland Paramedics and RVAC transported the victim to Good Samaritan Hospital ER. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

RPD Investigators believe that based on detailed examination of debris recovered at the scene the most likely involved vehicle is similar to the photo above. Detectives still believe the vehicle involved is an early 2000’s model, Chevrolet Suburban (possibly Tahoe or pick-up) dark in color. The vehicle will have damage to the front passenger side. Please contact RPD or your local police agency if you notice a vehicle similar to this configuration with fresh damage. The color of the vehicle is probably dark blue.
