Rockland Coronavirus Update: Death Toll Accelerating In December

The death toll passed 700 COVID-19 deaths at the beginning of the month and began to accelerate midmonth.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County's death toll from COVID-19 reached 745 as of Monday, health department officials reported.

So far in December, 46 people have died of the disease caused by the coronavirus, according to the county. The death toll was 699 at the end of November and 714 as of Dec. 9. Another 31 people have died since then.

The county was tracking 2,056 active cases of coronavirus as of Monday.

Hospitalizations, like deaths, are called "lagging indicators" because it takes 3-4 weeks after people get infected before those with severe cases of COVID-19 end up in the emergency room.
