Rockland County Recognizes April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

From the Office of Rockland County Executive Ed Day: Rockland County Executive Ed Day proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. He met with representatives from the New City-based Center for Safety and Change to present a proclamation. He told them that Rockland County is committed to supporting victims and survivors of sexual assault, rape, incest and child sexual abuse and holding perpetrators of those crimes accountable.

"We recognize that any community member may become a victim of sexual violence," the County Executive said as he presented the proclamation to Elizabeth Santiago, executive director of the Center for Safety and Change. "Through community collaboration and participation of all leaders in Rockland, we will succeed in ending the ongoing social epidemic of sexual violence."

The county will continue to work with the Center for Safety and Change to make positive changes, he said.

The proclamation was part of the Women's Initiative started by the County Executive, a year-long effort to further the success of women in the community and workplace.
