Rockland County Set To Hold Community Wellness Day This Fall

Community Wellness Day, a national event, will take place in Rockland this fall and vendor applications are needed by next week.

On Saturday, October 15, Craig T. Nugent, director of in New City, will be hosting Rockland County’s 1st Annual Community Wellness Day. The not-for-profit event will last from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will educate the community on health, safety, and environmental wellness by way of various agencies and programs.

Community Wellness Day will be taking place in cities nationwide over the span of three weeks during the fall. While Rockland’s event is not until October, the deadline for vendor applications is coming to an end. The fee for vendors to participate in the event is $299. If registered prior to August 12, there is a 50 percent discount and the fee drops to $149.

“Organizations and individuals that would like to be included can be confident knowing that they are promoting health and at the same time raising money for some very important local charities,” says Dr. Nugent.

Support from the Town Supervisor Alex Gromak and from the Clarkstown Police has been secured for the event. Dr. Nugent and his team have chosen Rockland’s local chapter of Meals on Wheels and the Rockland Coalition for Better School Funds as the two beneficiaries.

The money earned from corporate giving and vendor fees will go exclusively to these beneficiaries and general admission to the event is free.

Information provided at the event will include, but is not limited to fire safety and prevention, bicycle safety, Internet safety, identity fraud protection, financial literacy, health screenings, and drug and alcohol awareness. The event will cater to a wide range of ages - children through seniors.

The goal is to improve community awareness for preventative health services while raising money for the beneficiaries.

“As a healthcare leader in the community, I believe that the healthcare crisis will not be solved in Washington,” explains Dr. Nugent. “It is up to us to create a ‘wellness’ consciousness in our own community and to empower our friends and neighbors to prevent disease through a healthy lifestyle, rather than treating disease.”
