Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III Receives Ellis Island Medal of Honor

Sheriff Louis Falco III was honored, alongside Yankee legend Mariano Rivera and others, by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations

Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III was honored by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO) with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor at a ceremony on May 9th. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor are presented annually to American citizens who have distinguished themselves within their own ethnic groups while exemplifying the values of the American way of life and dedicating their lives to creating a better world for everyone.

“All of our honorees have common values: they have dedicated their lives to helping others, they strive for ethnic, racial and religious tolerance and acceptance, and have demonstrated themselves to be valuable citizens of the United States,” said Nasser J. Kazeminy, chairman, NECO. “We are proud to bestow this honor upon Louis Falco III, Sheriff of Rockland County, New York.”

The ceremony and program are designed to promote NECO’s ongoing initiative to educate young people about tolerance and celebrating the richness of America’s ethnic diversity. Falco joins an impressive list of award recipients that includes six U.S. Presidents, Nobel Prize winners and leaders of industry, education, the arts, sports and government.

“It is an honor and humbling to be included in such an inspiring group of people. It is a blessing to be able to serve as an inspiration to others and continue to journey down the path that others have inspired me to take,” said Sheriff Falco.

NECO is a not-for-profit organization founded by William D. Fugazy, Sr. in 1984 with a mission to celebrate the diversity of the American people and to raise awareness and funds for the restoration and maintenance of Ellis Island. Since its founding, NECO’s mission has grown to include the sponsorship of humanitarian and educational initiatives.
