Rockland County's Bridges Among New York's Best

NEW CITY, NY — Rockland County bridges are among the top in New York, according to a report issued in October by the Office of the State Comptroller.

"My administration has made investment in infrastructure a priority," Rockland County Executive Ed Day said. "This report shows that our effort has been a success."

The report by Comptroller Thomas Napoli looked at the structural condition of bridges owned and maintained by municipalities statewide, including New York City.

In Rockland, the report cited only 3 bridges in need of repair, the best record of the 60 municipalities in the state except for Ontario and Suffolk counties.

The Rockland bridges cited by the state as in need of repair includes one in Orangetown, which is in the final stages of being rebuilt. The Orangeburg Road bridge is projected to be completed either by the end of the year or in early 2018. Almost all of the funding for the $13 million project is coming from state and federal sources.

Day thanked Rockland County Highway Superintendent Charles "Skip" Vezzetti and his staff, particularly bridge engineer Joe Pyzowski for their efforts."Solid infrastructure is key to Rockland's continued growth," the County Executive said. "We have made smart investments in our future."
