Rockland Garage Fire Proves Fatal

A Stony Point resident died a day after he was badly burned.

STONY POINT, NY — Matt Waldron of Stony Point died of injuries he sustained Saturday when his garage caught fire while he was working in it, police said.

Waldron, 84, died Sunday morning.

He was working on machinery in his detached garage on Charles Court when the blaze started Saturday morning. His wife was burned trying to save him. She is expected to recover, police said.

"Mr. Waldron had roots that go back hundreds of years in Stony Point and the community mourns his loss," Stony Point police Lt. Daniel Hylas told The Journal News.
