Breaking: After the attack last week in a West Nyack hotel shower, Todd Humphrey led police on a multi-county chase that ended in a crash.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A man accused of attacking his girlfriend with a hammer as she showered, will face attempted murder charges.
Todd Humphrey, 46, of Stony Point, has been indicted by a grand jury for second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, and two counts of third degree criminal possession of a weapon stemming from the violent attack last week at a West Nyack hotel, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced on Wednesday.
On October 17, around 5 a.m., officers from the Clarkstown Police Department were called to the Tappan Zee Hotel, on North Route 303 in West Nyack, after reports of a woman screaming.

Police officers located a woman at the hotel who had lacerations to her head. She told officers that while she was in the shower, her boyfriend began striking her in the head with what appeared to be a hammer. She managed to escape the room and was assisted by hotel staff who called 9-1-1.

Humphrey left the hotel before officers arrived. He was eventually located in Putnam County, and led New York State Police in a chase that ended in Orange County, when he crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody.
"As alleged, the actions of the defendant on that day were brutal and showed no regard for the life of the victim," Walsh said. "I would like to commend the swift response by the Clarkstown Police Department with assistance from the New York State Police for apprehending the suspect. The defendant will now be held accountable for his alleged criminal actions."
Humphrey was arraigned on Tuesday. He was remanded to Rockland County Jail and his next court appearance is November 15.
