UPDATE: Residual Traffic Problems Around Tappan Zee Bridge Due to Fatal Accident

All lanes have reopened after the accident but delays exist.

UPDATE—Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, 5 p.m.: All Tappan Zee Bridge lanes are re-opened, Tappan Zee Express said. TZx buses may have residual delays as regular service resumes.

Traffic is moving across the Tappan Zee Bridge but delays can still be expected.


UPDATE—Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, 2:15 p.m.: It may be harder to get home this afternoon due to the investigation into a fatal accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge Wednesday.

The right and center southbound lanes are still closed on I-87 due to the investigation of the accident that killed one motorcyclist.

Stop-and-go traffic is being reported for the northbound lanes of the bridge, the Department of Transportation said.

Afternoon Tappan Zee Express buses are delayed both ways up to one hour due to traffic accident investigation on the bridge.


UPDATE—Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, 12:15 p.m.: TARRYTOWN, NY — New York State Police are investigating a fatal accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

On Wednesday, Aug. 31, at approximately 11:23 a.m., the accident, which involved a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer, occurred southbound mid-span on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The accident is still under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.

TARRYTOWN, NY — An accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge southbound has traffic tied up.

The Department of Transportation said the right and center lanes are blocked between Exit 10 (I-87)-South Nyack (US 9W) and Tappan Zee Bridge Toll Barrier until further notice.

No further information is available at this time.
