Scammer Pretends To Be Rockland Sheriff's Officer
County Sheriff Louis Falco warns residents about another new way crooks are trying to take your money.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco, III announced that his department has learned that there is a telephone scam involving a person impersonating a Rockland County Sheriff’s Officer.
A scam caller gave the name of 'Sheriff Devan,' he said in a press release. The caller stated that the victim needed to “resolve an issue or they would be subject to arrest.”
When 'Sheriff Devan' was questioned he hung up.

The telephone numbers initially identified were 845-259-5869 and 845-658-0025. Both numbers do not belong to the Sheriff’s Office and there may be additional numbers as part of the scam. All numbers do have a message attached; it is not the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.
It is not the policy of the Sheriff’s Office to call on the telephone and threaten arrest if money is not paid.

"If anyone has received similar telephone calls from someone claiming to work for the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, please contact our office," Falco said. "You can call (845) 638-5401 and give the information to the desk officer. That officer will take your information and forward it to our detective bureau for follow up investigation. "
