See The International Space Station Go By

Did you catch it Wednesday night? You have another chance.

The International Space Station is flying over the Hudson Valley after sunset these days. And while Wednesday night was the best chance for a while to see it — almost overhead and visible for a good six minutes — Friday night is another chance, if you have a clear view of the horizon to the west-northwest.

On Friday, the space station will be visible over the Hudson Valley for four minutes about an hour after sunset, in the West-Northwest sky. It will only be 38 degrees above the horizon (NASA says: "The horizon is at zero degrees, and directly overhead is ninety degrees. If you hold your fist at arm’s length and place your fist resting on the horizon, the top will be about 10 degrees.") The space station looks like an airplane or a very bright star moving across the sky.

And thanks to Orange and Rockland Fires for drawing our attention to it, even though like many of the commenters we didn't see last night's post until too late!
