Spring Valley Man Apprehended In North Carolina For Yonkers Shooting
The early morning shooting, in which a 33-year-old was shot in the arm, happened last week in a Yonkers apartment.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A man accused in a shooting last week made his way to North Carolina, but Yonkers police got their man — with a little help from their friends.
In the early morning hours of October 19, Yonkers police were called to an apartment on Vineyard Ave. after reports of a shooting. Investigation found that shots had been fired, but that those involved had already left the scene by the time police arrived.
Detectives working on the case were able to find the gunshot victim, a 33-year-old Yonkers man, who had taken himself to a local trauma center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm. Investigators believe that the victim was shot by a relative of his domestic partner, and identified the suspect as Nahkeem Janvier, a 21-year-old resident of Spring Valley.

It seems that both men were engaged in a dispute at the scene that escalated to violence when Janvier displayed a handgun and fired at least three shots in the victim’s direction, striking him once, according to police. Janvier then fled the scene and ultimately the state.
Detectives filed and were issued an arrest warrant for Janvier, charging him with attempted murder 2 and unlawful weapon possession.

"Yonkers police would like to thank their partner law enforcement agencies and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in apprehending this suspect," police officials said in a statement issued Wednesday.
Yonkers Police Department investigators, working closely with the Village of Spring Valley Police Department and the FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, were able to track Janvier to the Charlotte, North Carolina area. He was apprehended on October 23, by the FBI Charlotte Violent Crime Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, and is now awaiting extradition.
