State Police Training Session On Response To Sexual Assault

This training will shed light on commonly misunderstood behaviors and memories of sexual assault victims.

POMONA, NY — The New York State Police, in collaboration with the Center for Safety and Change, is presenting a two-day training on the Neurobiology of Trauma and Healing: Enhancing the College Campus Community Response to Sexual Assault. The event is being hosted by the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona on Thursday, May 3 and May 4, 2018.

The training, presented by the State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit and the Center for Safety and Change, will be attended by more than 90 participants including law enforcement, campus safety and security departments, campus administrators and staff, and victim advocates.

This training will shed light on commonly misunderstood behaviors and memories of sexual assault victims, by showing how they can be consequences of the neurobiological impacts of stress, fear, and trauma. Topics will also focus on improving responses to sexual assault within and among campus communities.

During the event, attendees will hear from Technical Lieutenant Gary Kelly, NYSP CSAVU, Senior Investigator Thomas Gibbons, NYSP CSAVU, Senior Investigator Judith Trimboli, NYSP CSAVU, and Michelle Carroll, New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, among others.
