On Tuesday, February 4th, the residents in the Clarkstown Central School District (CCSD) will vote in a Special District Meeting to authorize funding to the Board of Education (BoE) to partially reconstruct the Congers Elementary School. Based on the multiple drafts I’ve been writing, this was going to be a long blog entry. There were going to be all kinds of analyses, based on different scenarios in considering a plan for the District, that were going to be added to the general reasons to justify closing an elementary school that don’t. But it became apparent why this wasn’t going to be useful to anyone…yet. For starters, there are some who will always consider closing an elementary school to be some kind of big cost-savings, and this very small minority of voters would never change their minds no matter how detailed or how clearly data shows these huge savings in closing a facility don’t actually exist.
So, if you're one of that group, you can stop reading now. To learn why the Congers Bond vote should be approved to ensure the development of a long-term plan for the CCSD that considers all schools, click to my main blog here.
