Vets Reminded to Book Seat on Shuttle for Health Care

Rockland won the fight to keep a shuttle service but it is now by reservation only.

NEW CITY, NY Rockland County Executive Ed Day would like to remind veterans that they must now make a reservation for transportation from the clinic in New City to other VA facilities for medical care.

"We won our battle to keep the VA shuttle bus," he said. "But the service must now be booked in advance."

The County Executive, along with Jerry Donnellan, director of the Rockland Veteran's Agency went to a meeting at the VA in Castle Point in January to protest plans to eliminate the shuttle service. Around 100 veterans use the service every month, and it costs the VA about $100,000 a year.

The VA reversed its decision, with one condition — seats must be reserved in advance.

So the shuttle bus will still transport veterans from the satellite health care center in New City to other VA facilities in Montrose, Castle Point or the Bronx. But veterans must call the Rockland VA center at 845-634-8995 during regular business hours to book a ride.
