Victim Snaps Photo of Suspect in Armed Robbery: Clarkstown Police

Now a Spring Valley man faces felony charges in Nanuet.

CLARKSTOWN, NY — The Clarkstown Detective Bureau arrested a Spring Valley man Tuesday for robbery with a knife last Friday in Nanuet.

At 12:05 a.m. Nov. 11, the Clarkstown Police Department responded to a report of a robbery with a knife in the area of Rockland Avenue in Nanuet.

Responding patrol units interviewed the victim, a 26-year-old from Nanuet, who told them that a man had broken into his car, which was parked in front of his residence. He had chased the guy down the street and was able to confront and take a picture of him — at which point the man brandished a large knife and then ran away.

The victim reported that his wallet and credit cards were stolen. He was not hurt.

Using the picture taken by the victim and assistance from other police agencies, police say they identified the suspect as Ryan Christiansen, 19, of Spring Valley.

He was arrested and charged with robbery 3rd (felony), grand larceny 4th (felony), menacing 2nd (misdemeanor) and criminal possession of a weapon 4th (misdemeanor). Christiansen was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and bail was set at $20,000. He was transported to Rockland County Jail and will return to court on Nov. 21.

Christiansen is not currently a suspect in the other car larcenies that have occurred in our jurisdiction, Clarkstown police said.
