Schools

Welcome to a New School Year

Parents, children got in some last-minute shopping to be ready for today's start of classes.

Summer's fading and school's back in session. Some parents are sad to see their kids head back to school, but others are glad to know their children will be in a safe and educational environment for the bulk of the day.

Whether it's a haircut, a pair of shoes or a binder, almost every parent has to take care of something last minute.

One mother, Hara Hartman, has children going to schools in New City but goes elsewhere to do her shopping.

"To be honest, I go to ... Nanuet ... and usually shop at Office Depot for school supplies. They just have the best prices," Hartman said. As far as how her school supplies bill compares to last year, it's "about the same as last year, a little less maybe. They've gotten a little older so they don't have to buy crayons and color pencils."

Dana Inzeo squeezed in some clothes shopping for her boys, Ryan and Jason.

"We just went to Payless (Shoesource) and got them new shoes," she said. Inzeo added that they got back-to-school haircuts at Sal's Barber shop in New City.

Maria Carcamo's daughter, Maya, is starting at a new school this year and thinks that the most important thing to do in preparing for school is making new friends.

"I've been taking her to the park where she can meet new kids," Carcamo said.

Whatever the reason for parents to be back-to-school busy, everyone seems excited for school to be back in session.
