Winning Streak: Boulders Take Three In A Row

Rockland captures wins in both games of double header against Colonials

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – After two days of postponed baseball between the Rockland Boulders and Pittsfield Colonials, both clubs finally got a break from the bad weather and played a double-header at Joe Wolfe field on Wednesday night.

Rockland moved past Pittsfield by a combined score of 14-5 in the double-header, winning game one 5-3 and game two 9-2, respectively. The victories give the Boulders a three-game winning streak.

In game one, the Boulders jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Ryan Mollica deposited a two-run home run, his fifth of the season, off of Colonials’ starter Miguel Flores on a 1-1 count.

Rockland then took a 3-0 edge in the top of the fourth as Joe Hage, who had the game winning grand slam against Quebec in that series finale, doubled home Ryde Rodriguez.  Norm Hutchins helped the Boulders jump to a 4-0 advantage after his solo shot left the park in the top of the fifth.

Pittsfield cut the lead to half in the bottom of the frame on an Angel Molina two-run home run, but the Boulders held on late to win their second contest in a row, 5-3.

Game two saw another offensive outburst from the Boulders, as the club put together 13 hits for nine runs to earn the sweep of the Colonials.

Mollica homered again for the Boulders in game two, while six Rockland batters collected RBIs in the team’s 9-2 victory.

Boulders’ starter Will Hassett pitched a complete game for Rockland, only allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four.  Chad Paronto took the loss for the Colonials.

Rockland moves to 4-5 in the second half, and 23-32 overall in the Can-Am League.

The two teams will wrap up the four game series with another double-header taking place at 4:00 p.m. today at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
