Wrong-Way DUI Driver Fought With Troopers: Police

An East Rutherford, NJ man was arrested for assault and driving under the influence of drugs.

STONY POINT, NY — A driver who police said was going the wrong way on the parkway in Stony Point faces assault and DUI charges. On Jan. 20, State Police Haverstraw arrested Jason L. Bates II, 31, of East Rutherford, NJ.

They were responding to to a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane in the town of Stony Point. But when they arrived, they found the vehicle in the center median facing southbound near the Visitors Center.

As the troopers approached, the driver got out of the car and became combative, police said. After a physical confrontation, troopers placed Bates into custody.

Investigation revealed that he was impaired by drugs, police alleged.

Bates faces charges of 2nd degree Assault (felony); Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (misdemeanor); Reckless Endangerment 2nd (misdemeanor); Disorderly Conduct (Violation); Harrassment 2nd (violation) and resisting arrest (Misdemeanor). Bates was sent to Rockland County Jail in lieu of bail.
