New Hyde Park's Devon Roth has become the regional champion of the Play! Pokémon™ Trading Card Game battles in Philadelphia. At this competition, Routh earned a top regional ranking and a regional championships medal.
The 2011 Philadelphia Pokémon Regional Championship provides an opportunity for players to test their Pokémon TCG skills, strategy, and creativity. The State Championship tournaments are the third events in the Pokémon Championship Series, and Premier Rating Points awarded there go toward a potential invitation to the 2011 Pokémon World Championships held in San Diego, California, in August.
Competitors are divided equally into three divisions: Junior (born in 2000 or later), Senior (born in 1996–1999), and Masters (born in 1995 or earlier). Players in all divisions were competing for exciting Pokémon prizes, including Pokémon TCG booster packs, a State Championships medal, and the honor of being named State Champion.
