Celebrating Father's Day at Jonathan's
Where is it written that Mom gets taken out to dinner on her day and Dad gets a barbecue?
Think about giving dad a rest and taking him out this Father’s Day.
A great choice is the Sunday brunch at in Garden City Park. With their extensive menu, prepared under the supervision of Chef Alain Ribiere, there’s bound to be something for dad and everyone else in the family.
The menu includes typical breakfast items such as omelets, pancakes and French toast; luncheon items include crab cakes over Caesar salad, Mediterranean style Atlantic salmon and grilled chicken quesadilla. There’s plenty for the meat lover: marinated skirt steak with a blue cheese salad; filet mignonette Diane (cubes of file mignon sautéed with capers and shallots and flambéed with a brandy demi-glace); grilled lamb chops served over a Greek salad with Tsatsiki sauce; and a black Angus beef burger.

On a recent Sunday, I went for the classic eggs Benedict: toasted English muffins with a layer of Canadian bacon, topped with a poached egg and covered with hollandaise sauce. Everything fit together beautifully and the side of hash brown potato cakes rivaled my grandmother’s latkes.
A very popular luncheon dish that has found its way onto the brunch menu is jumbo shrimp and sea scallop risotto. The seafood is pan seared and served over saffron risotto, vegetables and a light lobster sauce.
