Detectives Seize Assault Weapons From Nassau Home
Authorities arrested 37-year-old Chandrakant Dhanak on Saturday after they received an anonymous tip, police say.

A New Hyde Park man was arrested after authorities discovered several assault weapons inside his residence Saturday night, police say.
Detectives from the Special Investigations Squad along with Homeland Security Investigations received an anonymous tip that 37-year-old Chandrakant Dhanak was in possession of several firearms and ammunition.
After a consent search by Dhanak, detectives found nine assault weapons inside his residence, which is a direct violation of the Safe Act, police said.

Detectives also recovered 23 rifles and five handguns, which were all legally possessed by Dhanak.
Dhanak was arrested at 8:40 p.m. without incident and was charged with nine counts of criminal possession of a firearm. He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead and released on $5,000 bail. He is due back in court on Friday.
