Presentation of an original play by Marcia Posner: Smoke and Mirrors; Delusion and Despair – The Story of Terezin followed by book discussion; book discussion also at 7pm.
Smoke and Mirrors, Delusion and Despair: The Story of Terezín. The play coordinates with this year’s Long Island Reads One Book, The Lost Wife by Alyson Richman. The book covers one aspect of Terezín; the play fills in the rest of the ghetto history and activity which includes the art department of The Lost Wife. An extensive bibliography list is available to those who attend a performance.
Hitler used Terezín as a transit camp and ghetto during the Holocaust. More than 155,000 Jews were sent there. Although it was not a death camp, over 35,000 died in Terezín, most due to starvation and the appalling conditions arising out of extreme population density.
