Filling New Hyde Park’s Potholes

When you think of New Hyde Park, you usually think of pristine tree-lined streets that exemplify the suburban ideal.

But there are some areas where the driving conditions are less than ideal.

When we asked you to in New Hyde Park and a couple of readers pointed us toward the area of Marcus Avenue between Hillside Boulevard and Nassau Boulevard as the most egregious.

New Hyde Park Patch put in a call to Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro, who stated that potholes in the village roads are filled continuously by village crews and are not left to be filled as part of the periodic larger and much more involved undertaken during the summer months.

The approximate annual budget for pothole repair in the village is $30,000, but Lofaro stated that in some years the village board may add additional funds to that line item if more repairs on the roads are necessary, such as when the village must .

Since Jericho Turnpike is a state road, state crews would conduct repair work on the main thoroughfare running through New Hyde Park.

The deputy mayor added that the village does read comments on the New Hyde Park Patch and encouraged readers to either contact the village hall or to post comments on New Hyde Park Patch stating where potholes are so that crews may be sent to repair them.

In the unincorporated areas of New Hyde Park, residents can dial 3-1-1 to report a pothole to the , which will send a crew to the area for repair within two business days. All 3-1-1 calls are catalogued and tracked by the town to ensure requests are handled in a timely manner and completed.
