Getaway Driver of Convicted Police-Shooter Gets Prison Time
Renhang Qiu was sentenced for his involvement in a New Hyde Park home burglary that led to the shooting of a police officer.

The getaway driver of the man who shot a Nassau County cop during a New Hyde Park home invasion in 2013 was sentenced to seven years in prison, Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced Friday.
Renhang Qiu, 24, of Brooklyn was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision in addition to jail time for helping convicted police-shooter Cong Xu, of Brooklyn, in the burglary.
On Aug. 14, 2013, Nassau County Police responded to report of a burglary at a New Hyde Park home and confronted Xu as he fled the house. As Xu ran away from the officers, he turned and fired several rounds from a handgun. One of the bullets struck Officer Mohit Arora, 32, in the lower abdomen, the DA’s office said.

Officers located Xu, taking him into custody on Flower Lane and Nugent Street. Qiu was arrested on Lakeville Road and Sylvia Lane.
Qui pleaded guilty to first degree burglary in May 2014.
“This sentence closes the chapter on a case of greed gone terribly wrong, which led to the shooting and serious wounding of a police officer,” Singas said in a statement. “This case is yet another reminder of the dangers that police face every day on the job.”
