Other news from the April 4 board of education meeting.

The Herricks Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, April 4. Here are some of the things you may have missed.
Defribrilators
- The board declared an emergency to provide funding to buy two defibrillators.
- Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth said that one of the district's defibrillators in the community center has ceased working and that given the number of people who use the center, a second one would be appropriate.
- "We don't want people trying to race down the hall," Dr. Bierwirth said.
2013 Summer Language Immersion Fees

- Fees have been set for the summer language immersion program.
- Students will pay $150 to attend this program.
- The program is for two weeks in August and will span over five days a week and three hours a day.
- In addition, the salaries for teachers and director of the immersion program have been set. The director will be paid $1,900 and teachers will receive $900.
Donations
- The board of education approved the donation of two table tennis tables from the Port Washington Table Tennis Club.
- A scholarship of $1,000 from Gershow Recycling was accepted by the board to be given to a high school senior who is slated to major in engineering or environmental science.

- BBS Architects of Patchogue were named the district architects. They will be working on capital bond projects that will be voted on in May of 2014.
- The board approved the pay of election workers at $12.93 an hour and $14.35 an hour for the chairperson of the election. These rates have not changed since 2002.
- The board approved of making obsolete three laptops (two Gateways and one Lenovo) as well as a Gateway PC.
The next meeting of the Herricks Board of Education will be on Thursday, April 18 at 7:15 p.m. at the community center.
