  • The board approved a measure to establish a tax certiorari reserve fund and money will be placed into this fund on June 30.
  • These settlements occur when residents and businesses challenge their tax bill and assessments and the county makes adjustments for their mistakes and people are reimbursed for paying an excess amount of tax.
  • Previously the county would make up the difference for the schools since it controlled the assessing, yet after the repeal of this practice, school districts would have to fund and pay the county back for any moneys they reimburse on their behalf.

Other Board News

  • The board approved being part of a transportation cooperative with other public school districts in Nassau and BOCES to help keep bids from transportation companies down. Herricks Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth said that even when Herricks does not make a bid as part of the cooperative, being part of it and having the bus companies know what numbers they need to meet is helpful and has saved the district money.
  • The eighth grade boat trip will take place on June 22 in Manhattan for 300 attendees who have paid $17,040 was approved by the board.
