New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook: February 5

Other news from the February 5 village board meeting.

The New Hyde Park Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, February 5. Here are some things you may have missed.

Jericho Turnpike Project

  • Trustee Donald Barbieri again spoke to engineers from the state department of public works, Verizon and village engineers regarding the repaving and beautification of Jericho Turnpike and “have gotten so close to going out to bid on this project but it’s dragging on and on.”
  • He stated that the village was “moments away from concluding that part of the process” and may have gone out to bid by the next board meeting for the plantings on Jericho Turnpike.
  • Deputy mayor Robert Lofaro noted that two weeks ago the board gave authorization to go out to bid.
  • Regarding the repaving it was noted that in some spots the center medians will go out further than the current yellow lines as state crews recently ground out areas and pained lines wider than current ones.
  • “In certain areas you’re going to see some low plantings, they’ll be some low flowers, some perennial plantings will go into them, they will be irrigated, they should be very attractive to the community,” Barbieri said. “Part of the project was an attempt was to slow traffic a little bit, create a little bit more pedestrian friendly environment and by doing so we might get some of that effect.”
