New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook: May 7

Other news from the May 7 village board meeting.

The New Hyde Park Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, May 7. Here are some things you may have missed.

Records Grant

  • The village has received an $11,869 grant to “clean up” some records.
  • They will be having some one come in and check through inventory and organize and see what records to discard and what to archive.
Building Department
  • The zoning board of appeals will meet on May 8 and hear four cases: 1513 Belmont Ave. (east side-yard encroachment to accommodate a full second-story addition, portico and rear balcony); 1215 Fifth Ave. (front yard setback to accommodate an open terrace and portico); 809 Sixth Ave. (close an open permit for detached garage); 549 Sixth Ave. (encroachment for east side yard to accommodate a second-story addition).
  • The architectural review board mat on April 3 and approved one case: 642 Twelfth Ave. (plans for a full second-story addition). They heard an additional case of 1513 Belmont Ave. (changes to second-floor windows, color renderings). The next meeting of the architectural review board will be on June 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • The planning board met on May 1 and granted a waiver of subdivision application for 1300 Jericho Turnpike, allowing the property to be subdivided.
  • The village court heard two cases on May 15 of working without a roof permit.
Use Requests
  • The Doll Study Club of Long Island requested a yearly renewal of the use of Marcus Christ Hall for the second Saturday of each month.
  • Boy Scout Troop 298 requested use of Marcus Christ Hall on Friday, June 14 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to hold an Eagle Scout Ceremony.
  • NHP CERT requested use of Marcus Christ Hall on Tuesday, June 18 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and that, as in the past, the fee be waived.
Other Board News
  • The following car wash applications were approved: Troop 298: May 11.
  • The following businesses were granted license renewals: carter: Red Box + of New York (Ronkonkoma).
  • The New Hyde Park Fire Department is conducting their annual fundraising drive. Residents are cautioned against any charities that do not say the New Hyde Park Fire Department.
  • The New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce is holding a business reception at the TD Bank at 110 Hillside Ave. on May 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The annual children’s summer recreation program will be held from July 9 to August 9, Monday through Thursday with morning and after noon sections for ages 6-8 and 9-12, respectively. Registration will be held on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the village hall. There is no charge to village residents. The fee for non-residents is $100.
  • Any resident wishing to have a tree planted by their home should please contact the village department of public works. Superintendent of public works Tom Gannon stated that they currently have about 60 homes on the list.
  • A farmer’s market is set to run every Saturday from June to November in parking lot across from village hall from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The last day without penalty for village taxes without penalty is July 1.
The next meeting of the New Hyde Park Village Board will be on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 p.m. at the village hall.
