NHP Announces Class of 2016's Valedictorian, Salutatorian

New Hyde Park Memorial High School has announced Roby Daniel as valedictorian and Carolyn Wilson as salutatorian of the Class of 2016.
With a strong, intelligent mind and a 103.1963 GPA, Roby is a most impressive young man. His innate ability to learn material on any subject is unmatched. Separating him from his peers is an unstoppable work ethic, which is driven by an internal clock. He has always been enrolled in a challenging selection of advanced and Advanced Placement courses and is a responsible, mature, and passionate young man, who consistently works hard at school and within the community.
Roby achieved a perfect score on two of his SAT II’s in chemistry and U.S history. He currently holds a solid score 2,300 on his SAT’s and 35 on his ACT exams. He has also mastered six New York state Regents’ exams, with a perfect score on each. Roby was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a National Merit Commended Scholar for scoring a 208 on the PSAT. He won first place at the American Mathematics Competition in 2012 and 2013; and received the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Award for Math & Science in 2015. Roby goes above and beyond when assigned a task always completing it to the best of his ability. He is an active participant in class discussions and is well liked by his peers, teachers and coaches. He enjoys a challenge and always wants to maximize his time spent at New Hyde Park Memorial.

Roby spends his free time volunteering at local hospitals such as Winthrop University, where he has spent more than 200 hours delivering medical equipment while engaging with patients. In addition, he has volunteered more than 100 hours at Franklin Hospital North Shore LIJ in both Emergency & Cardiology Units. In addition, he has spent an excess of 350 hours assisting in organizing youth events; bake sales and fundraisers for the CSI Malayalam Congregation of Greater New York.
Salutatorian Carolyn Wilson is a thriving scholar whose intelligence can only be matched by her motivation. This is complemented by her warm personality and dedication to all that she does. Carolyn is a model student who strives for and achieves excellence in all subject areas. Her course work, grades, college boards and extracurricular activities are impressive in every way, including her 102.1374 GPA. In addition to taking all advanced and AP level classes, she is enrolled in the science research program, which is available to top students. This program requires students to be at school by 7:10 a.m. every morning and participate in summer research, science fairs and competitions. Carolyn was able to secure a research position at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and worked under Dr. Lionel Blanc in the Oncology and Cell Biology Center where she performed researched “The Effect of a Second Generation Immunomodulatory Drug on the Pharmacological Induction of Fetal Hemoglobin in Vitro” this past summer. Additionally, she was accepted and attended the Columbia Science Honors Program this fall.

Outside of the classroom, Carolyn participates in a host of clubs and activities. Currently, she is the Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook Committee. This position entails her overseeing all aspects of the yearbook from photography, page layout and design to writing and editing. She also competes with the Mathletes and Science Olympiad teams where she made it to the National Level for the Chemistry Exam.
Carolyn is quite active in her church’s youth group, volunteers at soup kitchens, food and clothing drives and sings in the choir. She also has spent her free time volunteering at North Shore University Hospital.
