The Board of Education held a meeting on Monday, July 2. Here are some of the things you may have missed.
Contract Negotiations
- Superintendent Robert Katulak mentioned that the district had begun negotiations with the teachers, monitors and .
- The units’ contracts had expired on June 30.

- After the as principal of , it was announced that Dr. Richard J. Faccio would be taking over as the new principal.
- Faccio was previously the head of the Canadaigua Academy in upstate New York but was also employed in the Bethpage School District.
- Cheryl Cham was also hired to replace outgoing Sewanhaka assistant superintendent for curriculum Dr. Linda Opyr.
Contracts
- An emergency transportation contract was approved with Dell Transportation for June 11 and 15 in the amount of $295 per pupil per day.
- A contract for the maintenance and repair of school buses, vans and maintenance vehicles was awarded to Precision Performance, Inc.

Donations
Donations were accepted from the following organizations:
- $407.39 from from book sales from parents at Manor Oaks BLT which will be used to purchase materials and supplies
- $300 from G&E Linder Post 8031 VFW from the school marching bands marching in the
- $621.21 from from a school rewards program through the participation of Manor Oaks families to be used for instructional supplies.
Other Board News
- A first reading of a policy entitled “Payroll Procedures” was held.
- A list of staff for the 2012 Summer Special Education and ESL program was approved. An increase of $900 was approved for the 2012-13 budget stemming from registration fees for the self-sustaining summer recreation program.
- The district will participate in an agreement with BOCES for Project 12 workstations and Project 13 District Wireless.
- Leslie DiBernardo was appointed as the district notary public.
- Dr. Frank Roberto will continue to act as the school physician for the district for the 2012-13 school year.
- Superintendent Katulak will attend the NYSCOSS conference in the fall in Saratoga Springs and in the winter in Albany during the 2012-13 school year. The cost for each conference will not exceed $1,500.
The next meeting of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education is Monday, August 6 at 8 p.m. at the Manor Oaks School.
