Save The Date: School Safety Workshop, Oct. 24

 An upcoming meeting focused on school safety is designed to address the concerns of the community. In a breakfast forum, Hofstra University plans to address emergency preparedness, school security and safety.

The event takes place Thursday, Oct. 24, from 8-10 a.m. at the Hofstra University Club, and is sponsored by Hofstra University Continuing Education and its School of Education along with the Nassau County Chapter of the New York State Association for Superintendents of School Buildings and Grounds.

This comprehensive two-hour workshop is geared toward public and independent school faculty and administration, PTA members and emergency management personnel. It will include a discussion about New York State Education Department laws and regulations pertaining to school safety, security and emergency preparedness.

Panelists will present an overview of Project Save Regulations for New York State Schools, district safety committees’ duties and responsibilities, conducting a threat assessment for facilities and campus, safety and security after school hours, fire safety in schools, and police eepartment programs supporting K-12 schools.

Panelists include Peter Laduca, executive director, Nassau BOCES Health and Safety, Michael Sheehan, retired director of school facilities and safety, Baldwin School District; Dennis T. Sheridan, the retired executive director school facilities/operations and safety, Hewlett Woodmere School District; Jerry Brown, district supervisor, Baldwin Fire Department; John McGuire, emergency operations center manager from the Nassau County Police Department. The cost, which includes a continental breakfast, is $15 per person in advance or $25 at the door.
