$1 Million Yonkers International Trot Field Announced; Hannelore Hanover, Resolve Represent USA

United States Million Dollar-Earners Hannelore Hanover, Resolve Present Double-Threat; 7 Euros Arrive at JFK Wednesday (Oct. 5)

The field for the 38th edition of the Yonkers International Trot, set for Saturday afternoon, October 15, at Yonkers Raceway, has been announced, and 10 world-class trotters, representing seven counties, will race for a purse of $1 million, equaling last year’s New York State and Yonkers Raceway record purse.

The United States (2), Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy (2), Norway, and Sweden (2), will have horses vying to become world champion. The Yonkers International was revived last year after a 20-year hiatus by raceway and Empire City Casino president and CEO Timothy J. Rooney.
The field, in alphabetical order, is as follows:
BBS Sugarlight – Norway
Explosive de Vie – Sweden
Flanagan Memory – Canada
Hannelore Hanover – USA (mare)
Jonesy -- Finland
Oasis Bi -- Italy
On Track Piraten – Sweden
Resolve – USA
Ringostarr Treb -- Italy
Tano Bork – Denmark
America has a double threat in a pair of millionaire trotters. The only mare in the field, Hannelore Hanover(driver Yannick Gingras), was a $32,000 bargain purchase who has won 23 of 37 career races, and Resolve(driver Ake Svanstedt), who has 14 career victories and was able to defeat Hannelore in the final of the Maple Leaf Trot on September 17.
Three of the entrants – BBS Sugarlight (4th), Oasis Bi (5th) and On Track Piraten (7th) competed in last year’s Yonkers International. Last season’s winner, Norway’s Papagayo E., is injured and unable to defend his title.
The European invaders are scheduled to depart for New York’s JFK Airport from Liège Airport in eastern Belgium, close to German city of Düsseldorf, this Wednesday, October 5. The transcontinental flight is a distance of 5960 kilometers or 3,703.4 miles, and the journey travelled takes eight hours and 55 minutes.
