$1 Million Yonkers International Trot Returns in 2016
After seeing Papagayo E of Norway win the International Trot in 2015, Yonkers Raceway announced that it will return in 2016 on Oct. 15

Yonkers Raceway has announced that next year’s Yonkers International Trot is set for Saturday afternoon, October 15th, 2016. The purse again will be $1 million, and the distance 1 ¼ miles. There will be 10 invitations extended to trotters across the globe.
This year’s revival after a 20-year hiatus was captured in stirring fashion by Norway’s Papagayo E. (Oct. 10th).
“We were very excited to bring this race back after 20 years and even more excited to have it return in 2016,” Raceway president and CEO Tim Rooney said. “The response was overall very positive and we learned quite a bit, so we’re already starting to look into what we can do to make the event even better.”

“We’re very appreciative of the interest shown in this race,” Rooney added. “Returning our Yonkers International Trot was something we had discussed for many years, and we feel that by confirming a 2016 date well in advance, we are assured of attracting the world’s best trotters.
“Once again, we are grateful for the continued support of our overseas audience, as well as our fans locally and throughout North America.”
