14-Year-Old Horse, Trained by 90-Year-Old Trainer Wins at Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers Raceway saw experience beat youth as a 14 year horse, trained by a 90 year old trainer, won yesterday.

It was “old timers’ day” this afternoon at Yonkers Raceway. The 14-year-old pacer Sakra Fella, trained by 90-year-old Carl Dobkowski, lit up the tote board with a $66.50 win mutual ($2 wager) in the opening race on the Tuesday matinee card.

Scott Zeron drove the Pacific Fella gelding to a three-quarter length win over the 2-5 favored Arthur, driven by Matt Kakaley, stopping the clock in 1:58 for the mile in the $6,500 pace.

Sakra Fella is now 2-for-3 in his final year of racing after going winless the past two seasons. Fourteen is the mandatory retirement age for a harness racehorse. Sakra Fella comprises Dobkowski’s one-horse stable.
