Air Quality Alert Issued for Lower Hudson Valley for Friday

People who are sensitive to ozone pollution should take precautions.

Forecasts are calling for another 90-degree day Friday, so once again officials have issued a health advisory for the Hudson Valley.

On Wednesday, the state Department of Environmental Conservation issued an Air Quality Alert in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 7, for Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester counties.

New York City is also under the alert. There were air quality alerts for most of the lower Hudson Valley Wednesday and Thursday.

Air quality levels outdoors are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground-level ozone.

The state Department of Health recommends that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.

This particularly applies to those who are sensitive to the effects of pollution, such as the very young and those with respiratory problems or heart disease.
