Amtrak, NJ Transit Service Suspended To, From Penn Station

An Acela train sideswiped an NJ Transit train pulling into the station.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An Amtrak train derailed and struck a NJ Transit train Friday morning and as a result both train services are suspended to and from Penn Station in New York City.

The collision, in which no one was injured, occurred around 9 a.m. Friday when the Acela Express train 2151 from Boston to Washington, DC had a minor derailment while it was moving at a slow speed, the Journal News said.

FIOS1 News said the Amtrak train scraped the side of NJ Transit train as it was coming into Penn Station.

NJ Transit posted on its website that MidTown Direct trains are being diverted to Hoboken Terminal. Cross honoring is in effect system-wide with NJT bus, private carriers, NY Waterway and PATH.
