A&P Retirees Pension Plans No Longer in Doubt
The Great Atlanta and Pacific Tea Company went bankrupt in 2015.

A&P retirees can breathe a little easier with plans for the feds to pick up their pension plans.
The U.S. Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation will take over more than 21,000 retirees’ plans since the grocery chain went bankrupt, according to an article on lohud.com.
The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company which in addition to A&P also owns Pathmark, The Food Emporium and Waldbaums, went bankrupt in 2015.

A&P and Pathmark had numerous locations in the area, including Nanuet and Valley Cottage in Rockland County, as well as these in Putnam and Westchester: Bedford, Brewster, Goldens Bridge, Mount Kisco, Port Chester, Yorktown Heights, Thornwood, Harrison, Millwood, Mahopac, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Hastings-on-Hudson, Croton-on-Hudson, Mamaroneck, Greenburgh, Bronxville, Yonkers, Briarcliff Manor, Shrub Oak, Mohegan Lake and Peekskill.
Agency officials said the employees’ pension plan was not terminated and was ongoing.

Most of the stores were sold to Key Foods or Acme Markets, lohud.com said.
