It was a two-fer Thursday night for some New Rochelle students and their families when the Astronomy Club met at Isaac E. Young Middle School.
Science teacher Scott Misner said it was an outreach night where people could see the students' work and "gaze at some celestial bodies in the night sky."
The added bonus was being on the roof of the middle school and getting to see New Rochelle from a difference vantage point.
The students presented their research on the moon in one of the classrooms and then, after the sun had gone down sufficiently, ventured to the roof to look through one of three telescopes trained on the sky.
Misner said it was important for the students to participate in something like this.
"The students learn all about how nature and our universe work," he said, "and they learn about everything you can imagine about the moon."
