Bags and Bubbly at REcologie

Looking for a fun, crafty ladies' night out? Come to REcologie on June 11 and make a no-sew clutch bag with me.

I like making all kinds of stuff out of duct tape. From rain hats to beverage coasters, I’ve made almost everything you can imagine. In the three duct tape craft books that I’ve written, I’ve demonstrated the limitless possibilities of the sticky stuff.

Bags are my favorite things to make out of duct tape. When I actually tell people this, the response is always a polite nod of the head and a skeptical look. But when I actually show them my bags, the shocked expressions and subsequent stammering are my sweet reward.

“THAT is made with duct tape?”

“Yes.”

“Normal duct tape?”

“I don’t know what abnormal duct tape would look like.”

It’s a long and lonely road, but it’s my mission to change the perception that duct tape is just for crafty kids that make hot pink wallets. You can make these incredibly fashionable and practical accessories with it--and bags are just the beginning. Yes, it’s possible to make a dress or a pair of pants out of duct tape. And for the prom or a costume party, that’s okay. But a duct tape bolero vest or slouchy belt is something that won’t (excuse the pun) stick out. People will notice it because it’s pretty rather than it obviously looking like duct tape.

And so it begins with a no-sew duct tape clutch bag. I’m looking for some creative people to get their craft on. On June 11th at 7p.m. I’ll be at REcologie (49 Lawton Street) and you can make a fancy clutch bag with me. Sparkling wine with berries and small bites will be served, so it’s a perfect ladies’ night out. Tickets are on sale via Eventbrite, or you can contact REcologie directly by calling 914-278-9350 or emailing judith@recologie.com
