Coastal Flooding Possible Thursday During High Tide

Low-lying areas are the most vulnerable.

Southern Westchester County not only will have to contend with the effects from the massive winter storm heading to the eastern seaboard — with the possibility of accumulating snow and heavy winds — but the National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday to 2 p.m. Thursday. There could be minor coastal flooding in vulnerable areas along western Long Island Sound, including southern Westchester.

Tidal departure of 1-1/2 to 2 feet above normal could happen during times of high tide Thursday morning.

The weather service said shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. One to 2 feet of inundation can be expected above ground level in low lying areas.
